Monaural Poetry

– a project by musician & graphic artist Patryk Zakrocki in collaboration with Janusz Mucha (Gusstaff Records), consisting of fully analogue vinyl records created using music recorded on tape, with no post-production.

The recordings are made on Nagra SNN or Nagra 4s tape recorders,

and subsequently lathe cut onto vinyl, with only basic mastering of sound levels.

These are Hi-Fi, low-noise recordings, with linear characteristics, and very natural sound reproduction. With no post production, the acoustics and ambient sounds of each location are preserved, the musical piece remains unadultared and, in being transferred to vinyl, starts a life of it's own as the vinyl ages.

The record covers are also produced by analogue means:

hand printed linocuts, themselves hand carved originals produced for each album.

The Monaural Poetry "1" series are recordings of solo musicians in mono, playing in various acoustically interesting circumstances: for example in an underground passage or subway station. The invited artists have their own musical language and the recordings are improvisations created especially for the "1" series.
The second series of Monaural Poetry albums are monographs of artists recorded in stereo, most often using a single-point stereo mic. Reaching beyond the solo performance, the second series also features collaborations between musicians.

So far, over 40 people have recorded their works in various cities in Poland.
